Grammy award-winning violinist Joshua Bell discusses what it feels like to play a
Guarneri del Gesù violin once owned by composer Henri Vieuxtemps

_______________

One of the last violins to be created by the master, Giuseppe Antonio Guarneri,  Vieuxtemps Guarneri, made in 1741 three years before his death.

it has been played in concert halls around the world by some of the greatest virtuosi of its 269-year existence. It is named after Henri Vieuxtemps, a 19th-century musician who composed solo pieces for violin which he performed using the instrument.
More recently, it has passed through the hands of Yehudi Menuhin, Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman.

It's interesting to hear him speak on how he feels previous owners leave their imprint on the instrument.

"I think there may be a physical element to having a great violinist like Vieuxtemps playing on an instrument like that, I think they leave their imprint on the instrument.. maybe scientists will figure out exactly how that works.. When someone plays on it in a particular way, plays it in tune and really milks the violin for what it's worth for many many years, i think it really makes the violin in some way what it is.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the violin sounds as great as it does…" Joshua Bell

Finding it fascinating, I could not resist sharing this short video here.

The Lord Wilton Guarnerius, sometimes referred to as the ex Yehudi Menuhin, is a violin made by Italian luthier, Giuseppe Antonio Guarneri (1698-1744), usually called Guarneri del Gesù.

The Wilton was crafted in 1742 in the city of Cremona and was named for a Seymour Egerton, 4th Earl of Wilton, a musician associate of Arthur Sullivan.

It was owned and played by violinist Yehudi Menuhin from 1978 to 1999. After Menuhin's death in 1999, the instrument was sold for $6 million to well known collector David L. Fulton, the highest price paid for a violin to that date. As of 2013, the instrument remains in Fulton's possession.

It been so long since updating this blog. The creative urges are trickling through and it feels good to once again get things going on a creative and musical front.
Let's hope that i can keep this all on track somehow and make up for lost ground, after what has been a tumultuous and life changing few years for me on a personal front.

Thanking Vov Dylan aka Maestro for his encouragement, positivity and friendship in getting me back to practicing and playing violin after what has been almost a two year absence from it.
His ability to tailor lessons to keep me motivated and moving forward, as well a knack to be able to transfer his knowledge is what makes for an excellent teacher.

Also thanking him for allowing me the opportunity to take responsibility of his photographic requirements and cover design for his CD's this year and ongoing into 2014.
It is an honour and privileged to work and liaise with him and to be part of his team on his various projects.

Never had i imagined that my journey through learning violin would have given me such an opportunity,  leaving an artistic fingerprint behind and to meet, photograph and best of all listen to such wonderful musicians. It truly feels like I'm in Heaven and i'm having so much fun!
Thank you Vov.
